ABOUT

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to create opportunities for wealth creation among populations of color through
advocacy, financial education and the development of comprehensive housing solutions. HOMECo was formed in direct response to racial and economic disparities in Minnesota. Four African American-led organizations-Aurora St. Anthony Neighborhood Development Corporation (ASANDC), Build Wealth Minnesota (BWM), Camphor Fiscally Fit Center (CCFC), and Model Citiies, Inc. of St. Paul, came together to create the Housing Opportunities Made Equitable Collaborative-HOMECo. Our goal is to create strategies that strengthen the well-being of families living in concentrated areas of poverty, placing them on pathways to prosperity.

About

Policy Champions

HOMECo’s equity legislation was the first true legislation to address disparities at a state level. Our passion and collective commitment led Governor Dayton to signing the HOME Bill into law in 2015. The HOME Bill activities attracted agency funding for more than 18 organizations statewide through the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency (MHFA). MHFA’s Commissioner, Mary Tingerthal embraced HOMECo as a solution to problems of homeownership for Minnesota’s growing minority population and earmarked ongoing funding for these programs. More than $22 million has been allocated to date. HOMECo has become a catalyst for closing the gap in housing disparities in Minnesota.
